In this movie that mostly lacks dialogue (and otherwise has ancient subtitled speech) Smit-McPhee does a superb job of acting through fear, reluctance, and determination.

For my article in lockdown, I wish to do a film review. The film I want to talk about is Alpha (2018). It is about a young caveman, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, who gets separated from his family during a hunt and has to find his way home with the help of a wolf in a journey which will bring about the discovery of man's best friend.

2018-08-15 Alpha is a solid little survival movie that I would recommend, but if you're looking for anything surprising, this movie sadly plays it a little too safe in that regard.
